Listening blog: Whats Love Got to Do With It
Tina Tuner released "Whats Love Got to Do With It" in 1984. It is a song that represents rock and R&B combined. It was very successful for its time. I really enjoy this song and I can really tell why it was so successful. The lyrics talk about a girl falling in love but telling herself its not worth it. The love isn't worth the heartbreak. "Who needs a heart, when a heart can be broken?" This just shows the emotion that go with the lyrics. She talks about how she wish that she could show her love but it "scares me to feel this way." Tina has a very unique voice, it is deeper then most female artists and I really like it. She brings a raspy tone to the song and it fits very well. There is also a movie called Whats Love Got to Do With It and I think it would be a good movie to watch, so if you watch it let me know how it is. Overall I really enjoy the song and the meaning of the lyrics. It is very catchy and I can tell why Tina was so successful with it.
I really like how you talked about the meaning of the lyrics and the uniqueness of Turner's voice. I think this song is so great because of how these meaningful lyrics are so much more powerful coming from her voice in a way that not many other people could do
ReplyDeletei love this song!! I totally agree that this song is very good and definitely catchy! I think the song is full of emotion! I did not know that there was a movie. by the name of the song! I'm going to have to add it to my watchlist and maybe watch it over thanksgiving break!
ReplyDeleteThis song is the epitome of 80’s rock love & power ballad. Turner has such an iconic look and voice, she looks like a walking amalgamation of 80’s culture. I love your understanding of the lyrics (I did not get that much out of them). I wonder if Turner drew inspiration for the song from her own abusive relationship.
