Dreaming With Tears in My Eyes by Jimmie Rodgers

Dreaming With Tears in My eyes by Jimmie Rodgers was released in 1933. Jimmie Rodgers's songs are kind of the basis and start of country now days. This specific song has the style of a waltz. It has a distinct three count. The guitar and the singer is the only aspect that are in the song. The lyrics explain kind of a sad story about him and this girl that her loved.  He mentions that he loved her and that he missed her but he knows that she didn't love him as much as he loved her. I actually high key enjoy this song. It reminds me of the sad songs that are in movies when the main character is walking really slow in the streets being all depressed and it is obviously raining outside and you just cant help but feel bad for them. I can definitely tell how it is the start and the foundation of country. I like the lyrics and the way that he sings them. I feel like it would be way cool if they picked it up a little, added some bass. You could have a fire song. I liked this song and it was cool to see how country now days could come from it and other songs like it.

  1. I really like your thought about the main character walking in the street. I can totally imagine this song playing during a time when they've lost all hope. At first glance, the guitar screams Spanish waltz to me. I'll include the link to the particular song I had in mind but it's definitely a waltz as you said it is in a three count form. I agree that this song could come back if spiced up with more instruments like a bass or even some soft piano.

  2. I personally really love Jimmy Rodgers. He is the basis of almost all of the country genre. This song seems like a great introduction to his works and would be an amazing addition to a sad or moody playlist. And a revamp of this song could be great with some extra character.

  3. Brittyn, I really like your explanation as to what this song is about. After reading your blog I feel like I have listened to the entire song multiple times. In your post you give some examples on how they could make this song a fire song and I completely agree with that. A lot of old songs have a good foundation for a great modern song.
